UAT offers students and alumni Career Services assistance. We are here to help you find a career* and provide resume assistance and interview coaching. UAT also offers continued learning opportunities in the form of auditing courses for all alumni.
Tips from Career Services for effective resumes:
» Be sure and ask faculty and/or employers (current or former) for letters of recommendation and attach to applications if applicable.
» Customize your resume to opportunities that you are excited about. Think about hard skills and soft skills that might apply to the role and address them in your application materials.
Hard skills are technical skills that can be learned through practice and study (example: a programming language like Python).
Soft skills are related to your interpersonal interactions and personal attributes (example: effective communication).
» Consider audience awareness in crafting your resume, cover letter, portfolio, and any other applicable materials.
Consider your audience’s values, demographics, goals, beliefs, etc.
» Don’t forget to add supporting documents like a link or attachment to your portfolio! (PDF is recommended)
Need additional guidance? Email a copy of your resume to careerservices@uat.edu to receive assistance in making your resume shine! Career Services can offer interview coaching if you need assistance preparing for job interviews. Until then, here are some general job interview tips:
» Dress business casual, unless otherwise noted. Clothing should be clean, neat, and well-fitted.
» Always be sure to bring three copies of your resume, unless otherwise noted.
» Always review the company’s website before the interview. You should arrive with a basic working knowledge of who they are, what they do, and their mission/vision.
It’s recommended to find something on the potential employer’s site that genuinely resonates with you, and share that alignment at some point with the interviewer.
» Always have questions ready for the interviewer. Good topics include the company culture, mission, and vision.
» Be sure to send a follow-up email or even a handwritten note to the interviewer(s) afterward thanking them for their time. It might just help set you apart.
